The Start of a long Journey 2012 CAFA Excellent Graduation Works is the fourth of its series. This exhibition draws on the principles and method of the previous ones and we have selected the most outstanding works of our graduates from the School of Chinese Painting, School of Fine Art, School of Design, School of Architecture, School of City Design and School of Humanities for a grand showcase in the CAFA Museum.
The selection of exhibits was made through rigorous assessment by the schools. The show sets out to highlight CAFA achievements in high art education for the public and to the serve as a platform for learning and exchanges, which allows the wider public to view and understand the current state of contemporary art education in China. The subjects of “The Start of a long Journey” do not only centre on the academy’s examination and quality assurance of its teaching, they also offer an over view of CAFA’s teaching philosophy and directions for the future exploration, giving an objective view on the intellectual facets of contemporary academic art education in the new era. From the artistic and formal variety of the exhibition, we can see the rich creativity and the experimentation of the participating graduates. They are not only CAFA’s outstanding graduates but also emerging stars in the art scene. The featured works are not simply homework created for graduation, but the manifestation of the teaching and philosophy of CAFA in cultivating talent through the mix of traditions and innovation. The Start of a long Journey seeks to review and explore the possibilities of academic education and the future development of contemporary art. It differs from other graduation shows in its broader academic horizon and its vibrancy of research. We strive to instill the exclusiveness of the academy’s teaching and assessment into its social and culture research activities, to merge students’learning and creativity with contemporary language and the environment of modern art museum. This fusion is one of the academy’s traditions and its concepts of modern society, a dedicated effort to open new dimensions in today’s academic art education and creativity in China. To this end, CAFA will maintain its open attitude and further showcase the fruits of its educational endeavors, to truly serve the society through academic education and art.
